June 30, 2016 was the first ever Social Media Day in Sierra Vista. Social Media Day was started in 2010 by Mashable as a global celebration of the growth of social media and its continuing integration into all aspects of our day to day lives.
I was grateful to partner with the Small Business Development Center for the city-wide event, the city itself was included as a part of the day long event, with local businesses hosting their own promotions, live streams, etc. to commemorate the day, followed by a proclamation read by the Mayor in City Council Chambers. We also had our event featured on the front page of The Sierra Vista Herald.
I’m SO proud of the way the small business community stepped up – several entrepreneurs had never done a live stream and they stretched themselves to participate in the day! We saw everything from photo editing, informational broadcasts, DIY projects and an ultrasound…yes, an ultrasound.
Plans are underway to make next year even greater…I’m looking forward to it.
