“Gratitude Revealed” + My FAVORITE Motivational Quote

Spread the love

Being a business owner is somewhat of an isolated existence. Sure, you go to networking events, connect with fellow entrepreneurs and may even have your go to business BFFs to hang out with when the mood hits.

But for the average solopreneur, this is a solo journey…. and we have a tendency to get so focused on what we’re working on that we forget that people may actually watching (and admiring) what we’re doing.

I was reminded of this fact a few months ago when I received a letter from a local photographer, Pauline Fredericks,  who was partnering with two other women business owners (Lisa Roland and Heather Bird) on a book project. I’d been recommended by one of the ladies, and was asked to participate in this “tribute to women with undoubting commitment and humility”.

Say what???

After a brief moment of astonished silence (which NEVER happens), I said yes.

(my general business philosophy is to always say yes to a good thing..)

Fast forward to Nov 8, 2015, 110 photo shoots and the “Gratitude Revealed” book is launched…

Remember the Business BFFs I mentioned? The woman on the right is one of mine, the owner of Arizona’s first mobile fashion boutique, Bati’Mamselle Boutique.

It’s pretty awesome that our pictures are in the book next to each other :-).

Now about that quote…and a close-up of my feature:

The feature was accompanied with a brief questionnaire to complete, with questions about who we are, advice to our younger selves and inspiring or motivational quotes. We also had to provide a photo of our younger selves; I went with my Army enlistment photo, so much fear and excitement in my eyes…LOL.  We didn’t know what information was going to be used in the book, just that any information we provided was fair game.

“If you want your prayers answered, get up off your knees and hustle.”

This is my all-time favorite motivational quote because it’s a reminder that I still have to work. Prayer is awesome, I pray every day, multiple times a day, but faith without works is dead….you gotta put some work in.

[Tweet “Having faith is great, but you still have to put in WORK. @moniekjames”]

I am truly grateful and incredibly honored to be featured in this book full of such amazing women, from local politicians, military retirees, educators, medical professionals, business owners, lifelong volunteers, philanthropists and many others that just wake up being awesome every single day.

These women have definitely challenged me to stay on my journey of taking #BabyStepstoGreatness, not that we do it for recognition, but when your work is recognized it’s a beautiful thing.
