Unlock Marketing Potential with Lean Six Sigma’s 5S Method

My work with clients is all about delivering marketing strategies that are guided by their goals, reflect their brand identity, aligned with their intended customers and drive results. In this post I’d like to introduce you to a powerful concept that can unlock your marketing potential and take your content development to the next level – the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) 5S Method.

My approach as a marketing strategist and consultant is rooted in intuitive coaching combined with strategic planning, which allows me to support clients with creating marketing solutions that are effective and resonate authentically with their target audiences and intended customers.

Over the years I’ve pulled from my experiences as a soldier, working in an Operations role at a corporate job, and years of working with and training brand owners and nonprofit leaders as cllents. Studying LSS wasn’t something I planned to do while working in Corporate. A conversation with a mentor sparked my interest, and when I think about all that I learned in the program I’m glad I went for it.

What is the Lean Six Sigma 5S Method?

Born initially from manufacturing processes, Lean Six Sigma is about creating flow and eliminating waste in processes. If you’re familiar with this book, you’ve been introduced to some of the principles. The 5S Method focuses on organization, efficiency, and continuous improvement. But how does this relate to content development and my brand’s approach to marketing strategy?

Let’s explore each of the 5S principles and see how they align:

1. Sort: Streamline Your Content Focus

In the 5S Method, “Sort” means separating necessary items from unnecessary ones. In content development, this aligns with our client-focused approach. We help you sort through the confusion you might be feeling regarding your content so you can hone in on what truly matters to your audience—additionally, sorting through your content ideas and materials will help you determine what’s relevant to your brand identity. This clarity sets the stage for your efficient content planning. We prioritize elements that resonate with your intended customers, ensuring your content is relevant and valuable.

2. Set in Order: Structure Your Content Strategy

Setting things in order in LSS refers to arranging items for efficiency, and in the marketing world, this looks like creating a system that makes it easy to access and reuse valuable content pieces. This saves time and boosts productivity. Part of every Marketing Strategy Blueprint we create includes a recommended path for repurposing content and tools to help you manage it all. This ensures that your content efforts are efficient, consistent, and effective.

3. Shine: Polish Your Brand Message

“Shine” involves cleaning and maintaining. In marketing, this equates to polishing your brand message so you can update, refresh, and refine your content to ensure it aligns with your current brand identity and goals. Keep your best work in the front!

4. Standardize: Establish Content Creation Standards

Standardization in LSS means creating uniformity. This aligns with our focus on standardizing your content creation processes in content development. We work with you to establish content creation standards and guidelines that maintain consistency and quality in all your marketing efforts. Make sure everyone on your team follows the same marketing playbook.

5. Sustain: Continuously Improve Your Strategy

The final principle, “Sustain,” emphasizes ongoing improvement; make sure your content system is sustainable! Remember that marketing is not a one-and-done effort; continuous improvement is the key to long-term success. We encourage you to sustain your content strategy by continuously reviewing, updating, and optimizing it. Regularly review, edit, and optimize your processes.
