Five Lines from Black Panther that Inspire Entrepreneurial Greatness

Spread the love

Unless you’ve been underneath a rock in the middle of a black hole-like vortex in space, you heard that the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , Black Panther, premiered on Feb 16.

I’ll spare you the movie summary, you can Google it.

I saw the movie, and as is my way, I took away a few lessons that I believe apply to entrepreneurship and being a small business owner. One of those lessons I simply couldn’t hold any longer so I shared it via Facebook Live, complete with my gele. You can check out the replay of “In a tornado even pigs fly” here.

If you peruse any social media platform today you’ll see many people sharing the most memorable lines from the movie, and several had a special connection to my journey as an entrepreneur pursuing greatness.

Five Lines from Black Panther that Inspire Entrepreneurial Greatness

“Show him who you are” – Okay, I’m hearing this in my head four days later. I event wrote an email about it. This line challenges you as a business owner to ask yourself if you’re really putting it all out there. You say you’re butcher/baker/candlestick maker – are you showing that? We get comfortable being passive in our business, waiting around for people to find us. When was the last time you took action and made an effort win a new customer/client? Some people need to see you in action before they’ll believe. Show them who you are.

“You’re going to struggle so you need to surround yourself with people you trust.” Duh, this IS entrepreneurship. If you’ve fooled yourself into thinking this is a cakewalk and you can do it alone, think again. If entrepreneurship was easy, everybody would do it. Find the people that will encourage you, commiserate with you and celebrate with you when you win. Find your tribe of business comrades and keep them close.

“Just because something works, doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.” YESSSSS!!! There is ALWAYS room for improvement! Don’t get comfortable with yesterday’s wins, challenge yourself to win today! This is the idea behind #BabyStepstoGreatness – keep pushing yourself toward a higher level of awesome.

“You are a king. Stand up.” Who is it that you say you are? Act like it. If you call yourself a business owner, show up in your business, check your email, improve your marketing efforts, learn about strategy and apply it to your business, invest in business development. Handle your business!

“I am loyal to Wakanda, no matter who sits on the throne.” This line was delivered by General Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje, the all-female fighting squad that protects the country and the king. In a moment of tremendous uncertainty it’s common to be led by emotions – fear, doubt, insecurity. Okoye is led by discipline and loyalty. She doesn’t waver; the mission doesn’t change. Do you have that same level of loyalty to your business success? Can you stay on task in  tumultuous circumstances?

You might think that where you are in your business is fine. You might think you’re okay skating by with a comfortable level of effort.

But as I said in my first Black Panther live broadcast, technology and innovation has made the impossible possible, previously-held beliefs about the “proper” way to do business have been thrown out the window. If you’re willing to put the work in you can build a successful business. Otherwise, why do this?

I don’t know about you, but I’m chasing a Wakanda-level of Greatness…[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnaXBoeS5jb20lMkZlbWJlZCUyRmw0RkdzNEllWFpZWkRZeUJpJTIyJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI0ODAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIyNjMlMjIlMjBmcmFtZUJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBjbGFzcyUzRCUyMmdpcGh5LWVtYmVkJTIyJTIwYWxsb3dGdWxsU2NyZWVuJTNFJTNDJTJGaWZyYW1lJTNFJTNDcCUzRSUzQ2ElMjBocmVmJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnaXBoeS5jb20lMkZnaWZzJTJGbWFydmVsc3R1ZGlvcy1taWNoYWVsLWItam9yZGFuLWJsYWNrLXBhbnRoZXItbDRGR3M0SWVYWllaRFl5QmklMjIlM0V2aWElMjBHSVBIWSUzQyUyRmElM0UlM0MlMkZwJTNF[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”142″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
