Top Five Content Marketing Answers You Need to Know Now

“Content is everything. Everything is content.” – Moniek James

If you’ve followed me online for a while you may have heard me say this once or 3-5 times. I believe that content is THE way for purpose-driven business and brand owners to set themselves apart in a crowded marketplace. At the time that I’m writing this blog post, the world is battling with a global pandemic. (I’ve personally be in self-isolation for almost 7 months.) With people spending even more time at home, consumption of content has skyrocketed to the point that total internet hits have surged by between 50% and 70%.

As a content marketing consultant and agency owner, I have conversations all the time with business owners about how I think they can put content to work for their businesses. Most of the time I’m answering the same questions over and over, so here I’m providing the top five content marketing answers that you need to know now. Check them out below:

What is content marketing?

Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.

Why should I care about content marketing for my business?

To repeat myself, I believe that content is the fuel that keeps the engine of your business running. Whether you’re posting on social media, writing blog posts, recording videos, advertising in print or on your local radio station, you need to have something to say. Your content supports all of these avenues.

How does content marketing help my business get more sales?

Your content allows you to create the conversations that your intended customers need to have before they will be ready to buy your product. When you recognize that consumers are at different stages of the buying journey, your content will help you meet them where they are and “escort” them through the process to the sale. At the same time, you are able to position yourself as a resource for them and as somebody they can trust.

Why would I want to take my customers through a journey when I just want them to buy?

Consumers today are bombarded with sales messages. If you want to set yourself apart from your competitors, you can use your content to build loyalty and create a long-term relationship that will support repeat sales instead of a singular transaction.

How can content marketing help me make more money?

70% of consumers would rather learn about a business through an article instead of a traditional advertisement, content allows you to share the value of your products without “selling”. When your content is helping your audience, you attract more leads and have the opportunity to nurture them. Nurtured customers make 47% larger purchases than any other type of customer.

If you’re unsure about how content marketing can support your business growth, I hope these answers have helped you gain clarity and inspired you to take decisive action. Your business needs you to show up and lead it to the places where you want to go.
